Bill Laurie, former Ohio Conference Minister Condition

Dear Friends,

Many of you are aware that Bill Laurie, former Ohio Conference Minister who now lives in Chico CA, was diagnosed earlier this year with cancer and his life expectancy was estimated at one year.  The estimate has just been revised to 3 weeks.  Bill is at his home in Chico, with hospice care.  His children are with him.  He is very weak and, because of the cancer, unable to swallow, so is receiving pain medication sub-lingually.  His wife, Abby, is in the final stages of Alzheimer's disease and is at a care facility in Chico.

Bill has asked that there be no prayers for healing for him--just prayers for a good passage to the next life.  If you want to send him a note [he does not have email] his address is 10 Lakeshore Terrace, Chico  CA   95928.  His phone is 530 892 9384.

Youth to the National Youth Event

WILL YOUR CHURCH BE REPRESENTED AT NATIONAL YOUTH EVENT 2008 “Living the Life” THIS SUMMER?

Northwest Ohio Association is gathering a group of Youth interested in attending the UCC National Youth Event at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville this summer (July 24 – 28).  (Each church should have received information on NYE.)

Because we (NWOA) are going as a group it is not necessary to have 4 youth and 2 adults from each church.  You may send one or two (or more) youth with the NWOA group.  We will also need some advisors so if you have an adult willing to go, please let us know!

NWOA is providing a stipend of $100 toward the registration cost ($345 if pre-registered by April 30) for each youth going. (There will also be some bus transportation cost – yet to be determined.) What an opportunity for your Youth!!  Be sure to have your church represented… it is a life-changing experience to be with 3000 youth who have come together from across the nation to express, explore, and grow their faith.

To register your Youth and/or Advisor: Send their name, address and contact info (phone number/e-mail), & your church name along with a $25 deposit per person* to the Northwest Ohio Association by April 22nd (*make check out to NWOA for NYE).  These names and deposits must be sent as a group to NYE.  A full registration form with complete NYE information will then be sent to each person to be filled out and returned in May.  (For further information contact Jan Corbin by email at jkcorbin@prodigy.net or by phone 419-862-2807)

Encourage your youth age 13-18 to attend this great event!   It will make a difference “LIVING THE LIFE”

LOOKING FOR A LOCAL MINISTRY/MISSION TO SUPPORT?  The Disaster Response Team of the Ohio Conference is in need of additional  emergency response equipment.  Due to the frequency and extreme nature of the recent flooding in Northwest Ohio, we have had to order more equipment and still have need of even more. All of our equipment, including the newest, has been in almost constant usage since the August, 2007 flooding. The equipment is industrial sized and quite expensive.   It has been noted that we are the only group in the area to have the capabilities to pump out, mud out and dehumidify homes and basements without charge to the homeowners ( who do not need to be church members).  If you wish to donate, checks may be made out to and sent to NWOA, 416 Wentz St., Tiffin, OH 44883.  Please note in the memo line , "emergency response equipment". Thank you so much for helping to ensure that this very needed ministry work can continue.

Disaster Response Team, Jim Ditzler, Director
