DEATH IN THE FAMILY – Tuesday evening, September 4th Dorothy Parsell died at 98 ½ years old. She was the Grandmother of Mindy Lacefield and Pam Houston and the Mother-in-law of Ralph Quellhorst. Mindy performed the funeral on Saturday at Emanuel in Upper Sandusky and Ralph did the committal. Condolences can be sent to the family.

OCWM Update
As of August our OCWM for 2007 is $244,054.74 which in comparison to 2006 giving of $245,093.41 is about $1,038.67 behind. But donations for OCWM that stay here at NWOA are running about $3,580.09 ahead of last year. Thank you to everyone for keeping us strong through the summer months. Keep up the good work!
Camp Debt Reduction
The Sandusky Valley Regional Coordinating Team challenged every member, of every UCC congregation, in the Ohio Conference to help our camps, Pilgrim Hills and Templed Hills reduce their debt. As of August 31, 2007 $12,066.78 has been collected from churches in the Northwest Ohio Association. From other associations $2536.90 was sent to Northwest. A total of $14,603.68 has been sent to the Ohio Conference for the debt reduction. Thank you to all for the great response.
Northwest Ohio Needs Your Congregation’s Help (this is an ongoing request)
1. Prayer of concern and support for the survivors, first responders, government and other organizations, volunteers working endlessly for recovery.
2. Volunteers for the long term recovery effort (gutting/rebuilding) will also be need "down the road".
3. Money (marked "flood" or "disaster" recovery and sent to the NWOA office. We will forward it to the Ohio Conference UCC Disaster Response Fund to be used for long term recovery.
4. Cleaning Kits and Personal Care Kits:

Workshop Summary: What steps can our church take to prevent child abuse? What policies should we institute? How do we develop our local policies? Come to this workshop to get answers to these questions and more. Unfortunately, the risk of abuse is a reality that local churches can’t ignore. This workshop will help you understand the risks, and identify practical steps that can be taken to make your church safe for all.
Workshop Leaders: Cathy Green, President & CEO, UCC Insurance Board – Cathy is originally from Northwest Ohio, and was raised in St. Paul’s UCC, St. Marys. Many of you may know her parents, Philip and Mary Maurer, who have both been active in the Association. Cathy is a past moderator of the Central Southeast Ohio Association, and has been President of the Insurance Board since April 2006

We are accepting resumes for the part time position of Director of Discipleship.
The Director of Discipleship would work closely with the pastor and the appropriate boards, such as Church Council, Diaconate and Christian Education. The Director of Discipleship’s main function is that of coordinating, planning and communicating. A top priority is to launch a mid-week program that would include a meal, a worship service and education / spiritual growth activities. The Director of Discipleship would not be required to lead the worship service or enrichment activities (although their participation is welcome where appropriate), but to ensure that they happen in the best way possible. Other priorities include expanding our adult education offerings as well as resurrecting the children’s choir.
We are looking for a mature Christian with a passion for making disciples for Jesus Christ. This person must have strong skills in communication, organization and planning.
The position is for 20 hours/week at $10/hour.

Defiance College Senior High Event OCT 6.
Defiance College will be holding a college day entitled, "Jesus Counts on
Character(s)", October 6 from 9:30am to 9:30pm. The day will involve fun, learning, presentations, drama, film, entertainment, and more. More details will be mailed to local churches on July 20th. Bible Study on Colossians and Ephesians
Trinity UCC in Tiffin is offering a 3 session Bible study on Colossians and Ephesians on October 18, 25 and Nov. 1. In order to maximize attendance participants may attend one of two sessions offered. Each day will offer an afternoon session beginning at 4:00 pm and an evening session beginning at 7:00 pm.
Dr. Philip Harner, retired professor of Religion at Heidelberg College, will teach the class. The class will be using the study book, Paul For Everyone: The Prison Letters, by Tom Wright which may be purchased through Cokesbury bookstore or online at amazon.com.
