Rev. Daniel Busch will be preaching at Zion UCC-Fireside, this Sunday, September 9th with worship beginning at 10:00 am.

 

If you have clean up kits or personnel care kits please make sure they are taken to the following locations for pick up.

Memorial UCC, 1301 Starr Ave. (corner of Plymouth St.), Toledo, OH (419-691-5675).  Secretary is there summer hours 8a-11a.  Call before coming.  There are stairs either up or down.

St. Paul UCC, 101 S. Perry St., Wapakoneta, OH, (419-738-2215)  Secretary is there from 9a-5p, Mon-Th, and 9a-12p Fri.

 


Prayer Requests

Please keep all the flood victims in your prayers.

 

Rev. Gale Gebhart, Westminster is having ankle surgery on Friday, Sept 7.  Please keep Gale in your prayers.

Maggie Maher, Park Congregational UCC, Toledo Youth Minister, had a manipulation procedure done on her shoulder August 28th. Continued prayer for Maggie as she found her way to enjoy VBS, four out of the five days.


Northwest Ohio Needs Your Congregation’s Help

Needed (in order of priority):

1. Prayer of concern and support for the survivors, first responders, government and other organizations, volunteers working endlessly for recovery.

2. Volunteers to clean out basements (call NWOA and we will link you with specifics of what, where, who to contact, what is needed, etc. as soon as we have it). Volunteers for the long term recovery effort (gutting/rebuilding) will also be need "down the road".

3. Money (marked "flood" or "disaster" recovery and sent to the NWOA office. We will forward it to the Ohio Conference UCC Disaster Response Fund to be used for long term recovery.

4. Cleaning Kits and Personal Care Kits:

To insure enough supply and replace those used.  Check the Ohio Conference Disaster Relief website: <click here> ; or go to the Ohio Conference website: www.ocucc.org and then to the link for Disaster Relief.  Download the basic <brochures> for instructions of what to include.

Invitation to Workshop

On Sunday, September 16 all Sunday school teachers, Boards/Committees of Christian Education and pastors are invited to a workshop led by Dr. Marian Plant of The Defiance College at St. Paul’s UCC, 428 Kilbourne St. Bellevue, OH 1:30-4:00 p.m. Marian will be addressing new trends in Christian Education – Cradle to grave. 

 

The Miami Erie Women's Fellowship Fall Rally will be held on Wednesday, September 26 with registration beginning at 9:30 and the meeting beginning at 10 a.m.  St. Paul’s U.C.C., Rockford will be our host church with Rev. Catherine Costello leading the afternoon worship and communion.  Our morning will include three mini sessions with guest speakers, Rev. Roger Perl sharing information about Back Bay Mission, Kyle Zanker from Crossroads, and Pastor Sue Keller of Buckland enlightening us about prayer and meditation.  The cost is $6.50 which includes breakfast snacks during registration and lunch.  We will be collecting our annual Love Gift.

Dear Friends,

Our CHEEP Store (Clothing Helps Everyone Exchange Program) continues to be a vibrant and successful outreach program providing clothing to individuals in the neighborhood at no cost, providing opportunities for outreach and evangelism and providing time for fellowship.

            In order to staff the program effectively we need volunteers able to come on the first Saturday of the month for 4 hours, 9 am to 1pm.  If you are able to help as an individual or have a group that would be able to help on October 6th, November 3rd or December 1st we'd love to hear from you.  (You can also book any first Saturday of the month in 2008 since they are ALL available. )

For the UCC Back Bay Mission Trip

We will be collecting the following items to take with us on our October trip to Back Bay Mission.  If you have new or gently used items on this list to donate, please contact Rev. Jeanette Tangeman, tangeman@ohiolink.net, or 419-657-2196

 

Men's pants sizes 28-36 ONLY (no other clothing)

Backpacks, Small tents, Duffel bags, Sleeping bags

Hygiene supplies:  soap, shampoos, razors, floss, toothpaste, deodorant, toothbrushes, bug spray

 

We will also be making a stop in New Orleans to drop off school books and supplies, and the following items needed for the 20+ schools that are opening this summer:

Band instruments (they have someone for cleaning and repairs)

Mouthpieces, reeds, valve oil

Music stands, Drum practice pads, Drums--any

All kinds of balls (ie: soccer, basketballs, footballs, base balls, etc.)

Ball gloves, Cleats, Jump ropes

Glass slides (for science labs)

And of course:  Gift cards to Wal-Mart and Home Depot as well as cash donations (all cash distributed at the mission)

If you have any other items, please call us to check before sending them as storage continues to be a problem in both places.

 

Defiance College Senior High Event OCT 6.

Defiance College will be holding a college day entitled, "Jesus Counts on

Character(s)", October 6 from 9:30am to 9:30pm.  The day will involve fun, learning, presentations, drama, film, entertainment, and more.  More details will be mailed to local churches on July 20th.  This event is geared toward youth in their junior and senior years of high school.  Please mark your calendar for this great day.  More information attached.

A Day with God and Self

A day-long retreat offering an opportunity for re-connecting to the Holy. Leadership will be Janet Burkhart a licensed minister, is a graduate of Shalem Institute of Spiritual Formation’s small group leaders program. She is a retired Christian Educator and a member of Trinity UCC in Wooster, OH.  Rev. Suzanne Lehosky will also be part of the leadership.  Suzanne is a UCC pastor who is serving Woods Field and Buchanan Presbyterian churches. This event is held at Pilgrim Hills’ Prettyman Center, 33833 Twp. Road 20 Brinkhaven, OH  Registration begins at 9:30 am & Departure at 5:00 pm. The Next Days with God and Self are: Tues. Sept. 18, 2007; Sat. Nov. 10, 2007; Tues. March 11, 2008; Sat. May 3, 2008. $25 per retreat. If you plan to arrive the night before, add $34. for lodging. Fall Lantern Fellowship – September 21, 22, 23 – Pilgrim Hills

Leader – Jane Aerie,  Jan serves as executive for mission education and interpretation for wider church ministries and global ministries of the UCC.  Her responsibility is to tell the story of our denominations work in the world. Her vocational calling is to bring the needs of people and the mission of Christians together in partnership and service.     Cost $110.   Register with the Ohio Conference.

Bible Study on Colossians and Ephesians

Trinity UCC in Tiffin is offering a 3 session Bible study on Colossians and Ephesians on October 18, 25 and Nov. 1. In order to maximize attendance participants may attend one of two sessions offered. Each day will offer an afternoon session beginning at 4:00 pm and an evening session beginning at 7:00 pm.

Dr. Philip Harner, retired professor of Religion at Heidelberg College, will teach the class. The class will be using the study book, Paul For Everyone: The Prison Letters, by Tom Wright which may be purchased through Cokesbury bookstore or online at amazon.com.  You may register by calling the church office at 419-447-3191 or emailing the church at trinityucc3@sbcglobal.net.
