The Rev. David Borden, St. John’s UCC- Baseline and College Hill UCC was in a car accident on Tuesday ending with slight injuries to his hand. Please keep David in your prayers during this time of healing.
Janet Fahrenbruck, wife of Bill Fahrenbruck, licensed lay minister at Trinity UCC in Tiffin passed away Wednesday morning August 8th. Janet volunteered in the office at Trinity. The funeral service will be Monday, August 13th at Trinity UCC, 131 E. Perry St., Tiffin with visitation from 10-11 am the same day at the church. Please keep Bill and his family in your prayers. NEW REMITTANCE FORM CREATED
The second quarter reports have gone to the pastor and the treasurer of each church indicating the church contributions made through our office to OCWM and other mission programs. With this report is a new remittance form to be used when sending your contributions to NWOA. You will find the remittance form attached. Please print copies from this to use in the future. Remember also, when sending contributions to the Association the check needs to be made out to NWOA.
Scholarships to In-Care Seminary Students
The In-Care Working Group of the Church and Ministry Team of the NWOA allocated scholarship funds to Seminary Students, Jennifer Jackson and Rebecca McKibben-Sunday to assist with education expenses.

Peace Bubble comes to Northwest!
Singer-Songwriter Jerry Leggett, a UCC minister, will share a musical menu that includes classic peace standards by the Beatles, Bob Dylan and Tracy Chapman, plus a mix of his own soul-stirring Leggett originals. Jerry began a yearlong, nationwide peace mission in January, with stops at 50 UCC churches in observance of the denominations 50th anniversary celebration. His rousing, live music will take place on an intimate sound stage-a converted, tear-shaped, vintage RV that has been christened “The Peace Bubble.”
The tour is “a nonsectarian, nonpartisan effort to celebrate the ideals that make for peace in the heart and peace in the world,” says Leggett.”

The Peace Bubble will be at First Congregational UCC in Sandusky on August 11th. From 11am to 2pm there will be a Jerry Gravenhurst chicken barbeque. The concert will begin at noon with a peace pole dedication. There will be games for the kids, ice cream provided by Big Brother/Big Sisters, and a mission fair.

Invitation to Workshop
On Sunday, September 16 all Sunday school teachers, Boards/Committees of Christian Education and pastors are invited to a workshop led by Dr. Marian Plant of The Defiance College at St. Paul’s UCC, 428 Kilbourne St. Bellevue, OH 1:30-4:00 p.m. Marian will be addressing new trends in Christian Education – Cradle to grave.
The Miami Erie Women's Fellowship Fall Rally will be held on Wednesday, September 26 with registration beginning at 9:30 and the meeting beginning at 10 a.m. St. Paul’s U.C.C., Rockford will be our host church with Rev. Catherine Costello leading the afternoon worship and communion. Our morning will include three mini sessions with guest speakers, Rev. Roger Perl sharing information about Back Bay Mission, Kyle Zanker from Crossroads, and Pastor Sue Keller of Buckland enlightening us about prayer and meditation. The cost is $6.50 which includes breakfast snacks during registration and lunch. We will be collecting our annual Love Gift.

Nu-Vizion UCC, Toledo
Dear Friends,
During our spring work day, one of our members marveled at all the people who had come to help Nu-Vizion from the greater community and from our churches near and far. She wondered why they helped us, and more importantly, "do we ever help them?"
Pastor Will preached this last weekend at Buckland UCC about being "Stupid for Jesus." As Christians, we often do things society would consider "stupid", like driving two hours to help clean up an inner city church or donating 10% of our income to Christ's church.
In the spirit of our young member's idea of helping our supporters, and in the spirit of doing God's will by being "Stupid for Jesus", Nu-Vizion is launching an effort called:
Giving Back the Vizion
We are seeking opportunities from our churches to give back our time and talent through service to reflect our gratitude for what God has done for us in Nu-Vizion UCC. This week a group of seven women traveled to Sylvania UCC to cut and sew uniforms for Love INC. and had a fabulous time working and fellowshipping! Can we help you? Here are some ideas of what we can do:

Outdoor Ministries Sponsored Fall Work Days

The Ohio Conference Disaster Response Team is looking for some men and women who would be available with a 2-3 day notice to travel to an area of need (such as flooding), to help with the supervision of volunteers (who have been trained) and to ensure that all of the equipment which has been used makes its way back to the mud out trailer (which has already been outfitted by the team). These people could be helping with the actual cleanup, but their main responsibility would be as described above. A Day with God and Self
A day-long retreat offering an opportunity for re-connecting to the Holy. Leadership will be Janet Burkhart a licensed minister, is a graduate of Shalem Institute of Spiritual Formation’s small group leaders program. She is a retired Christian Educator and a member of Trinity UCC in Wooster, OH. Rev. Suzanne Lehosky will also be part of the leadership. Suzanne is a UCC pastor who is serving Woods Field and Buchanan Presbyterian churches. This event is held at Pilgrim Hills’ Prettyman Center, 33833 Twp. Defiance College Senior High Event OCT 6.
Defiance College will be holding a college day entitled, "Jesus Counts on
Character(s)", October 6 from 9:30am to 9:30pm. The day will involve fun, learning, presentations, drama, film, entertainment, and more. More details will be mailed to local churches on July 20th. In March of this year we moved to Uplands Retirement Village in Pleasant Hill, Tennessee. We had reservations about moving to a retirement community and leaving very special friends and long time connections in N.W.Ohio. After we visited Uplands, met some of the extraordinary people who live here, and learned about the variety of opportunities, we decided Uplands would be a good place for us.
Uplands Retirement Village is a mission partner of the Ohio Conference through the Council for Health and Human Service Ministries of the UCC. But it is not just for professional church people. If it had been, we probably wouldn’t be here.
Uplands is an ecumenical community with teachers, engineers, doctors, lawyers, secretaries, nurses, full time homemakers, volunteers, and yes, ministers and missionaries. We are a diverse group, but several things make Uplands a community: 1) our commitment to lifelong learning 2) putting our faith into action and 3) giving ourselves to the things that give life meaning.
You won’t find large community complexes, swimming pools, and upscale buildings here, but you will find great people, the beautiful hills of East Tennessee, moderately priced homes and condos, close proximity to entertainment and outdoor/indoor activities, the opportunity to spend your days enjoying your home and friends, sightseeing, and/or engaging in volunteer activities that are making a difference in the lives of the folks who live in the area. You may also be interested in knowing that residents are frequently on the go; traveling, doing volunteer work elsewhere, etc.
