Please prayer for Doris Shellhouse member of our Faith Formation MT.  She had open heart surgery on June 11^th at Riverside Hospital in Columbus following a heart attach on Saturday, June 9^th.

 

Rev. Max Andrew will undergo open heart surgery the week of June 24^th. Please keep Max in your prayers.

News from Brenda Weslow, Christian Educator at Trinity UCC in Tiffin.

This is an update on John and I’s health challenges.   On Memorial Day I fell about four feet and broke my foot with many other fractures.  I am scheduled for an operation on Tues. June 12^th  has an out patient at MUO in Toledo.  They are putting my foot back together to get the right shape.  The nurse told me to plan for 5-6 months recover but that probably means it could take that long but I am hope to recover sooner than that!

John has been having some challenges with his strength and falling.  We found out Friday that it has to do with his neck closing up around his spine.  On Thursday, June 28 he will go in for an operation at St. V’s in Toledo to correct this problem.  He will not be able to work for three weeks and can not drive for a week.  I don’t understand what they are doing but John does and is okay with it.  John will be in the hospital overnight.  

The good news is that John can walk after his operation and I can get around with a walker and wheel chair.  Plus we will be at home for a week together.  Is that good news?  Not sure.  Anyways we have been blessed with family and friends that have been wonderful.  As I always say “This to shall pass!” 

This email is to ask that you pray for us during this time.  I am a big believer that prayer works and so I am emailing friends and family to pray for us.

I will update you when things are some what settled around here.  In the mean time have a wonderful summer!  God Bless, Brenda

After the operation!  My operation went well.  I now have two plates and three screws in my heel. I can not have any weight on my foot for 8-10 weeks. After that time we will go slowly with the weight.  It is going to take time and I am sure to get cabin fever! Hope you all have a great day! 

 

 

Rev. Arnold Meckstroth will celebrate his 70^th Ordination Anniversary on Father’s Day, June 17^th at First UCC in New Knoxville.

 

GOLDEN JUBILEE OF ORDINATION OF JOHN RAINEY

Friends are invited to join with members of Grace United Church of Christ, Fostoria, on Sunday, June 17^th at 10:30 when they celebrate the Golden Jubilee Anniversary of Ordination honoring one of their sons.  John Rainey was ordained in the church of his roots on June 23, 1957.Guest speaker will the Rev. Dr. Roger Perl.  Liturgists include Rev. Eugene Finnegan, and Licensed Lay Minister Pattie Danner.   A fellowship luncheon will follow the Service of Worship.  Grace United Church of Christ is located on the northern out-skirts of Fostoria at 4481 North U.S. Route 23, north of the junction of Route 199 and Route 23.

 

Shoes to El Salvador

A thank you to all those who donated tennis shoes for “The Children of the Mangroves”. These are the children who must dig for clams six hours a day for their livelihood in El Salvador. Supporting programs through SARA

(Sharing America’s Resources Abroad), St. Paul UCC in New Bremen asked and received 271 pairs of shoes which are on their way to this country.  In addition, 153 pairs of shoes that were too small, too big or too warm are going to NuVizion in Toledo.  Money is always needed by SARA to support programs in the Ukraine, Romania, Serbia and El Salvador.     John and Joyce Gilberg

UCC's 26th General Synod proceedings coming to a computer near you

Interested in the following the action of the UCC's 26th General Synod, but unable to make the trip to Hartford Conn.?  You can stay in touch by tuning in on the web.  The church is planning extensive web coverage of General Synod, June 22-26, when the denomination celebrates its 50th anniversary with record attendance and high-profile speakers.  "We will once again provide gavel-to-gavel webstreaming at ucc.org," says the Rev. Robert Chase, the UCC's communication director. "The world is coming to Hartford, even if it means online viewing from your personal computer."  All plenary sessions at the Hartford Civic Center will be shown in real time and in their entirety, and visitors to the UCC's homepage should be able to locate the streaming with little or no difficulty. (Users with dial-up modems, however, may experience slower response.)

Chase says once-emerging streaming technology now has become commonplace, even expected. "When General Synod met in Providence (in 1999), we had only 300 people watch via the internet," Chase recalls. "Four years later, that number jumped to 3,000 in Minneapolis (in 2003) and then reached 36,000 only two years later in Atlanta."  The number of this year's web viewers is expected to climb, since Synod includes many high-profile speakers. Among those slated to appear are Bill Moyers, Dr. Walter Briggeman, Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill., and member of Trinity UCC in Chicago), Marian Wright Edelman and others.  In addition to webstreaming, United Church News and its team of volunteer professional reporters and photographers from across the United States will provide continuously updated news stories, features and photos at during the five-day event. A daily news digest, which will be distributed to Synod goers each morning, also will be available online in .pdf form. Learn more about Synod.

Below are the details of the Bridge Coffee House this summer at the Oasis on West Elm United Church of Christ in Lima, OH. Some of you came last year and enjoyed it and I wanted to invite you again. Please feel free to share this information with others and mark your calendar for Thursday, June 21, 2007 beginning at 7:00 p.m.

The third season of the Bridge Coffee House is on its way!  I wanted all of you to be the first to hear about this summer's Bridge schedule.  Like last summer, the Bridge will run on Thursday evenings from 7pm to 10pm starting on June 21 with Jim Boedecker - back by popular demand. 

            Last year was a great way to relax, enjoy some coffee, conversation, and a nice evening out.  This year will promise to be the same with some added bonuses.  This year we will relocate the Bridge into the new renovated Parlor and the yard off of Elm street.  With Pastor and other church men at the grill, this season promises to be fun for all ages.  For those of you with children, we will be offering free childcare in our crib room for our little angels.  There is also a fenced in play yard in the rear of the church.  Our caretakers in the crib room will be certified babysitters and will be supervised by an adult at all times.

FYI....Flood update:  The basement of church is under demolition now...the carpeting is being replaced and the drywall is being removed up to the 4 foot mark on the walls.  Thank you for all of your prayers.  God has heard them and kept us in His care.  Everything is a great big mess, but we are encouraged.  shelley

 

Peace Bubble comes to Northwest!

Singer-Songwriter Jerry Leggett, a UCC minister, will share a musical menu that includes classic peace standards by the Beatles, Bob Dylan and Tracy Chapman, plus a mix of his own soul-stirring Leggett originals. Jerry began a yearlong, nationwide peace mission in January, with stops at 50 UCC churches in observance of the denominations 50^th anniversary celebration. His rousing, live music will take place on an intimate sound stage-a converted, tear-shaped, vintage RV that has been christened “The Peace Bubble.”

 

The tour is “a nonsectarian, nonpartisan effort to celebrate the ideals that make for peace in the heart and peace in the world,” says Leggett.”

 

The people of Steuben Church invite you to hear Jerry Leggett and his Peace Bubble tour. His concert is scheduled for Wednesday, July 11 at 12 noon on the historic Steuben Square. (In event of rain, we’ll move into
the sanctuary.) You’re invited, too, to a potluck lunch at 11:30 AM. You can find a map to Steuben on our website.

 

First UCC in Fremont will host the Peace Bubble Tour on July 13^th in the evening.

 

The Peace Bubble is coming to Zion UCC, Fireside, July 19^th 7 pm.  Outdoor Concert on the parsonage lawn next to the church.  13525 Twp. Rd. 178, Bellevue, OH. You are invited to bring a lawn chair, relax and envision a more peaceful world, believing that another world is possible.  There is no charge. A freewill offering will be taken to support this mission.  In case of inclement weather the concert will be held in the church sanctuary.

50th Strawberry Festival at Bloomville UCC  on Saturday, June 16th.  Serving starts at 5:00 PM and will continue until 7:00 PM or until the food runs out. There will be homemade sandwiches, salads, chicken and noodles, pies and, of course, strawberry shortcake.  Music and entertainment will be provided; kid's games and crafts will be available.  We'd love to see as many folks as possible there!
