Back Bay Mission will host Compassion Explosion: Disaster Recovery Blitz October 29 through November 11.  During these two weeks Back Bay will host work camps of groups of 5-25 of skilled persons for housing rehab in the Biloxi area.  Skilled adults are needed and encouraged to register for either week.  Licensed plumbers, electricians, experienced roofers and persons with general construction skills are needed.  Registrations for up to 75 persons will be accepted each week.  A modest fee is charged per individual to assist with the lodging and other program related expenses.  All participants will be housed at Camp Victory also located in the area.  For more information call the Mission at 228-432-0301 or email bbvol@datasync.com People come to the Mission everyday with tremendous needs – they are homeless, jobless, and in need of food and clothes.  Your help to rebuild homes after hurricane Katrina gives hope to these people who have suffered so much.

Small Church Cluster Sponsoring a Work Trip to Louisiana

The Small Church Cluster is sponsoring a work trip to Louisiana on October 28 to November 5, 2006 to participate in the on-going restoration efforts being coordinated by the South Central Conference.

The group will be housed at Little Farm UCC in River Rouge. Their skills will be used out in the neighborhood. Work assignments will be determined on a daily basis, according to specific needs at the time; therefore, flexibility will be the most important component of the group’s experience.

Even now, months after Katrina, the needs of the people are great. Some of you have asked how you can help with this outreach. The answer is twofold. First, the group asks for your prayers – for them as individuals and as a group, and for those in the devastated area, especially those who will touch and change their lives. Secondly, your financial donations are encouraged and appreciated. You may wish to sponsor a volunteer by helping to pay their expense for the week (food, gas money, insurance and $50 per person to stay at the church) or perhaps you would like to contribute toward the purchase of supplies the group will need for their work. They will need $200 a person. Donations can be sent to Ms. Luanne Newlove, PO Box 43, Bloomville, OH 44818.

Work groups have been cautioned not to bring goods into the area to order to avoid storage problems and the need to deal with unusable items. They are encouraged to purchase supplies, including food for the group’s meals, in New Orleans to help boost the local economy. Any donations leftover at the end of the week will be used to purchase gift cards for needy residents or for the church to purchase more tools and supplies.

If you would like to join this mission work group, please contact Rev. Roy Howell, Trinity UCC, McCutchenville, 419-981-5808. There are openings still available.
