Prayer Requests & Celebrations

Hello friends,
We wanted to share all our excitement this past weekend!  We started by traveling to Cincinnati to attend the Commencement ceremony at University of Cincinnati!  Yes, Annette graduated!  As Pomp and Circumstance began playing and we saw Annette enter the gymnasium, our cell phone rang with news that we were once again Grandpa and Grandma...Alex James Schroer, 8" 15 oz., 191/2" made his appearance at the very same time.  After some preliminary concerns, everyone is doing great!  We give thanks to God for these blessings.   Joyce Schroer, First Congl. UCC in Berlin Heights

St. John United Church of Christ, Defiance, will be sending a mission work group to Jamaica, June 24 - July 1.  The mission work team will be building two homes in Jamaica.  The Rev. Dr. William R. Nirote, pastor of St. John UCC, Defiance, requests the prayers of the NWOA for success and safety with this mission work trip.

Nu-Vizion UCC-Toledo

At the NWOA Annual Meeting on April 29, 2006, NuVizion UCC was accepted as a new congregation in NWOA. Nu-Vizion UCC had the chartering service on Pentecost Sunday, June 4, 2006, with many representatives from NWOA churches as witnesses to the members signing the Charter. What a time of celebration as the Holy Spirit was present to bestow a blessing as Nu-Vizion UCC takes a giant step as a recognized UCC congregation.

On July 2nd 2006, as part of our ongoing journey into life as a fully charter and fully functioning congregation of the UCC, we will be installing deacons and ordaining elders.  Since these will be our first officers in these roles we are asking for your assistance.

We would like, in keeping with biblical witness and the traditions of many Christian churches, to install these individuals through the laying on of hands.  IN order to make this particularily meaningful, and because we lack a preceeding group of elders of our own, we are inviting churches in the NWOA and beyond to consider sending elders to act by proxy during this worship service.

Worship begins at 3:45 and will conclude at approximately 5:30pm.  If you are able to attend or have elders who would be willing to attend please RSVP to the church email address, nuvizioncf@sbcglobal.net or by phone to the church number 419-241-9358

Ohio Conference Gathering

Last weekend the Ohio Conference Annual Gathering spent time discussing the “Model for the Redefinition of Ohio Conference.”  The Model has emerged from the work of the Leaders Forum over the past 10 months. It has been a process in which the executive committees of the 5 Ohio Associations, the Conference Board of Directors Executive Committee, the 5 Association Ministers and the Interim Ohio Conference Minister have met and worked. A representative of the United Church of Christ Collegiums of Officers has frequently met with us. The Model presents a possible outline of how the United Church of Christ in Ohio, West Virginia and Northern Kentucky might be organized in the future.

Those attending the Annual Gathering had an opportunity to give feed back on the model using a response form that had 7 “levels” of response from strongly agree to strongly disagree. A quick and informal tally of the responses indicated a considerable majority of the responses were in the three agree levels. The process now goes to the Association Council this weekend for discussion and back to the Leaders Forum for additional work. The model for the redefinition of the Ohio Conference is also posted on the Ohio Conference Website www.ocucc.org click on “Reports for Discussion for Annual Gathering.” If you were unable to participate in last weekend’s discussion I encourage you to provide feedback on the website. There are significant implications for all of the Associations and the Ohio Conference.

Members of First United Church of Christ, Marblehead, corner of James and Prairie streets, Marblehead, invite all to their annual Ice Cream Social on Saturday, July 1, from noon to 6 p.m. The Ottawa County Blue Grass Band will perform from 1 to 4 p.m. Come see the antique John Deere hit-and-miss Big Green Mosheen churn out the best homemade ice cream in the whole world. Sandwiches, popcorn, beverages and other desserts are also on the menu.
