THIRSTING FOR GOD IN YOUR LIFE—CONNECTING IN THE SPIRIT

“Praying the Scriptures”  THURSDAY, JUNE 8, 2006, 7pm

St. Paul United Church of Christ, 101 S. Perry St., Wapakoneta, OH 45895  419-738-2215

Rev. Jeanette Tangeman (retired pastor of Buckland UCC), is presenting an opportunity for people of faith to come together for an evening and learn how to “Chew on the Bread of the Word.”  As a member of the ecumenical Spirituality Network, based in Columbus, OH, Jeanette is participating in the celebration of their 20th anniversary by presenting a program on the spiritual discipline of  “Praying the Scriptures.”  This is an evening right in our own neighborhood for people from any of our community churches to learn together the traditional practice of reading Scripture and letting God speak to you through the Word.  Come to learn how to read and meditate on any text of Scripture so that you become more aware of how God is acting in your life this very moment.

This evening will be both a “how to and why” session, as well as an opportunity for you to practice on a short text.  So bring the Bible translation of your choice and join your brothers and sisters in Christ as we connect in the Spirit.  This is absolutely non-denominational, not a study of any kind, but simply meant to give you another wonderful way in which to connect very personally with God.  It is an invitation to rest near the heart of God and remind you of the way in which God’s love sustain you every moment of your life.

The Ohio Conference Annual Gathering   The 2006 Ohio Conference Annual Gathering is June

16-17 at Heidelberg College in Tiffin. The theme is “One breath, One Spirit, Our Story.”  Don

Clark, the national UC attorney will be speaking on “Legal Issues Facing the UCC, Its Pastors and

Congregations.” The Annual Gathering is preceded on Thursday, June 15 with a Church Leaders

Day. On the agenda for the Annual Gathering will be a discussion of a possible model(s) for the organization of the ministry and mission of the Ohio Conference that is emerging from the Leaders Forum. The Leaders Forum is comprised of the executive committee of the Conference Board of Directors and the five Association executive committees. Registration information has been mailed to each local church and is also available on the Conference website at www.ocucc.org.

Bloomville UCC Strawberry Festival – June 10 – Serving begins at 5:00 pm

Just a reminder:  Pentecost Sunday is the suggested date for the Strengthen the Church Special Mission Offering of the United Church of Christ. The Strengthen the Church offering is the most under received of the four Special Mission offerings in United Church of Christ yet it funds critical work in church transformation and new church development. A portion of the offering remains with the Ohio Conference to fund the work of the Conference Church Development committee. As we continue to work on the transformation of our present congregations and work to begin new churches in Ohio, participation in this offering is very important. Strengthen the Church is one of the Five for Five offerings of the UCC. If your church has not scheduled Strengthen the Church for Pentecost it is still possible to receive the offering on another day.
