Emanuel's
United Church
Rev. Edgar Briggeman, Pastor
|
Emanuel's is located near the small Northwest Ohio Village of New
Bavaria, located in Henry County (pop. 29,108 in 1990). The
county's
population is approximately 70% rural, with Emanuel's having membership
from six school districts.
Heavy to light industries and cultural attractions are located within
easy access. The communities of Defiance and Napoleon, each
approximately 20 minutes away, feature local hospitals. Surrounding
local employers include GM Power Train, Campbell Soup Co., and Sauder
Woodworking. Higher education is available at Defiance College
(UCC
affiliated), NW State Community College, Archbold; and Bowling Green
State University.
Emanuel's boasts a German Reformed heritage, having observed our
150th
anniversary with year-long celebrations in 1995. Current membership
roll stands at 190, with an average attendance of 80 members.
Sunday
school enrollment includes 30 children and 12 adults. Our
church has an
active adult choir and children's choir. Services are held
in a
75-year-old brick building. Recent improvements include roof
and
furnace replacement and a new (1997) P.A. system. We are blessed
with
many fine musicians with varying talents and a part-time church
secretary.
Community ecumenical services are held periodically. Outreach
ministries include sharing the responsibility of delivering Meals
on
Wheels, nursing home services, and the camaraderie of Henry County
Ministerial Association.
Our annual events include a mother-daughter banquet, an open-enrollment
Vacation Bible School, a traditional ice cream social, chicken supper,
Christmas caroling, and a roller skating party. Active groups
consist
of Women's Guild, Young Adult Group, and Go-Getters.
