St. John's has a friendly congregation with German background. There is

a preponderance of retired people, few young married and teens. About

10% have attended college but few, if any, have not completed high

school. We have an adult choir, a children choir and a bell choir. We

recently began youth activities with a paid coordinator. Many members

are active in the community and extremely active in church affairs.

Official membership is 462, average attendance, 125. The church

consists of the sanctuary, adult Sunday school rooms, below, a community

room, kitchen and storage, above, children's Sunday school rooms.

Recent successfully funded projects are; paved parking lot, renovating

four church owned apartments adjacent to the church, and boiler, wiring

and sound equipment projects.

COMMUNITY

Bucyrus is a Red Carnation Community. It is an industrial area as well
as surrounded by excellent farming. There are three elementary schools,
one high school and two Christian schools, Holy Trinity Catholic and
Wayside Christian, both elementary schools. We have a community theatre
and a community concert series and many organizations such as YMCA,
Lions, Rotary, Business and Professional Women, Altrusa, Historical
Society, Elks, etc. In the past five years these changes have taken
place: a new industrial park has attracted three new industries,
Wal-Mart super store constructed, YMCA expansion, hospital expanding
services, a new dialysis center, a new Humane Society shelter, a new
county jail, expanded Foodtown, and renovation of the middle school
auditorium, to name a few. Some of our main industries are Timken
Roller Bearing, General Electric, Swan Rubber, and two boat
manufacturers. There are upwards of fifty churches in the area.
